[ Raihan is... kind of (definitely) more in the camp of Leon Friend than he is a Sonia Friend (a title Nessa proudly claims). Those two were so battle-obsessed that she was fine largely skirting around it and doing her research.
But Raihan is also way more of a history buff than Leon ever had been, much to Sonia's surprise, and a rather solid friendship had formed over it. As a Gym Leader, he's usually traveling or facing challengers in his own Gym, so she's learned to take advantage of those times where he's present and accounted for-- like now, which is why she's sitting at a calm little cafe in Hammerlocke, Yamper asleep at her feet and a book overflowing with notes in her lap as she waits for him to show up. Work keeps him busy, and he'd mentioned he might be a little late, but it's not as though she can't keep herself entertained. ]
[The best time for Raihan to have any free time would be outside of League season. Even at the beginning of the Gym Challenge when no one has made it to him yet, his city served as a waypoint between others, and it was his duty to not only hype the challengers passing by up, but also keep an eye on the Vault and make sure no one tried sneaking in without his permission.
Once the season was over, he was a Gym Leader in more of a traditional sense: keep the peace in the city, approve projects, oversee the infrastructure, etc. There was a lot more that went into the job than just being a competitive sports players a few months out of the year, and while it was a lot, Raihan wouldn't give it up for the world.
Still, that did free up some time for him, so when Sonia asked if they could grab lunch together, he accepted. There was a cafe he liked that was away from the general bustle of Hammerlocke, and they agreed to meet there.
Sonia was the only person who could keep up with his historical ramblings, even healthily debate with him, though she got so much more into it than he did. It was nice to have someone whose eyes didn't glaze over when he talked about the ancient days of Hammerlocke or the historical significance of an artifact, and he deeply appreciated it.
Raihan's in his regular, civilian clothes now, which is a general sign to not disturb him, and the people of Hammerlocke respected him enough to follow it. He pushes his designer shades up to his head when he sees Sonia, much like the way she has hers, and gives a wave.]
[ Sonia huffs a little, more exasperatedly amused than annoyed at this point, as she casually crooks her wrist in a wave of her own. Yamper's ears perk up from under the table, Raihan's cheerful voice rousing him from a previously sound nap, and he romps right on out to say hello and present his belly for rubs. A fierce former Gym contender, for sure. ]
Never going to call me by my actual name, are you? At this rate, I'll introduce myself as "Clever Cogs" in polite company and then Gran'll never let me live it down.
[ But she's smiling, clearly not at all perturbed. ]
Good to see you again, though. I didn't drag you away from anything too important, did I?
